October 29, 2026
From Monday, Nov. 9, through Wednesday, Nov. 11, local nonprofits and civic groups will spend the Cranberry Township Municipal Center's regular hours setting up holiday trees at 2525 Rochester Road. Each tree represents the mission of the group that decorated it. The halls they're going into are already lined with paintings. By Friday evening, the building will hold nearly four dozen decorated trees and more than 200 pieces of art for sale, and the people at its official opening will be holding a drink ticket.
This is the biggest change the Cranberry Foundation Tree Gallery has made in years. The holiday season at the Municipal Center now has two opening nights, one week apart and in the same building, and they're aimed at different crowds.
Last year's Tree Gallery was the 17th. It opened on Nov. 21, 2025, with almost 40 trees from local nonprofit and civic organizations, and stayed open through Jan. 2, 2026. That opening date was also Santa's First Stop, the township's free family evening. The gallery was one stop on a long list that night. Santa arrived by fire truck to light the tree on the Armstrong Great Lawn, and there were live reindeer, Mrs. Claus, a Steel City LUG Lego display, caroling by the Dutilh Choir, a Polar Express Experience from the Cranberry Township Early Learning Center, and Makerspace crafts from the Cranberry Public Library. Food came from Chick-fil-A, Cousins Maine Lobster, Cranberry Dairy Queen, Fun Fore All, The Flame BBQ, and The Munching Moose.
For 2026, the Foundation moved the opening up. The Tree Gallery registration page tells participating groups that "there are some important changes to this year's Tree Gallery timeline" and that several deadlines are earlier than in past years. It lists opening night as Nov. 13, "at the NEW Mistletoe and Masterpieces - a holiday event featuring a gallery of art and trees."
So the trees will be standing for a full week before Santa reaches Rochester Road. When Santa's First Stop arrives, the gallery is already open.
Mistletoe and Masterpieces is a fundraiser from the Cranberry Foundation and the Cranberry Artists Network, known as CAN. Cranberry Township announced it on Oct. 19 as an inaugural event and described it as bringing "art, philanthropy, and holiday tradition" together for one evening. The details on the Foundation's event page:
Since sales close a week before the event, nobody can decide that afternoon and buy at the door through the Foundation's page. Prices and availability come from the organizer's live ticket panel and could change before then.
Proceeds go to the Cranberry Foundation's Project of the Year. The Foundation lists its 2025-2026 Project of the Year as an Outdoor Fitness Court built with the National Fitness Campaign, an outdoor facility it says will give people of all ages and abilities free access to fitness equipment. That means a ticket to an evening of paintings and decorated trees helps pay for an outdoor fitness court.
The township's announcement says the Municipal Center has 106 feet of dedicated gallery wall plus hundreds more feet of display panels. It calls the space "one of the region's largest continuous spaces for exhibiting artwork" and an "emerging arts destination."
CAN has been using that space for a while. The group says its mission is to build appreciation for the arts by connecting artists and their skills with the community. Its own site says its members' work is on display year-round in the Municipal Center's Back Hall Gallery. This summer the Butler Eagle reported on CAN's "A Summer Night with Monet," which ran at the Municipal Center from July 15 to Aug. 28, 2026, and opened with a free reception.
Seen that way, Mistletoe and Masterpieces is CAN's regular exhibition calendar meeting the Foundation's long-running tree tradition. CAN lists "Mistletoe and Masterpieces" on its exhibitions page as a Municipal Center show running from Nov. 9, 2026, to Jan. 2, 2027. The Nov. 13 ticket covers the opening night. The exhibit stays up for about eight weeks after it.
Here's the season at the Municipal Center in order:
For families, item three is the key date. Santa's First Stop is still on the calendar, on the Friday before Thanksgiving, at the same address. The trees will be in that building by then, a week into their run. The calendar listing gives the date, time and place. For a sense of the evening, last year's version filled two hours with the tree lighting, reindeer, crafts and caroling listed above.
One vendor has posted another reason to come early that night. Black and Gold Beef Jerky's events page lists a Handcrafted Holiday Market at Santa's First Stop, at the Municipal Center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 20.
For adults, the decision is about timing more than access. The art and trees will be on display from mid-November to the first days of January, and the Back Hall Gallery hangs CAN's work all year. The Nov. 13 ticket gets you the collection on its official opening night, with artists in the room and live music, while the money goes toward the fitness court. If you're thinking about buying a piece from one of the six counties' artists, opening night is the evening you can meet the person who made it.
The Tree Gallery has always been the nonprofits' show more than the township's. The Foundation invites organizations "rooted in Cranberry Township and dedicated to strengthening our community's growth, vitality, and sustainability" to decorate a tree that represents their mission. Registration closed Oct. 23 on a first-come, first-served basis with limited spots. The township expects nearly four dozen trees, up from almost 40 last year.
That matches the reason the Foundation gave for the new event in the township announcement, which calls Mistletoe and Masterpieces "an opportunity for residents, businesses, and community partners to come together in support of the Cranberry Foundation's continued investment in the community." For 17 years the trees shared opening night with the family festivities. In this 18th season, their opening night is a gallery reception with the township's art network, and Santa still gets his own Friday a week later.
